Ingredients

- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 packet active dry yeast
- 1 1/2 cups warm water
- 1 tablespoon baking soda
- 8 ounces mozzarella cheese, cut into sticks
- Coarse sea salt for topping
Instructions
- Combine warm water, sugar, and yeast in a large bowl. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
- Add flour and salt, then mix until a dough forms. Knead for about 5 minutes until smooth.
- Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for about 60 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Divide the dough into pieces and flatten. Place mozzarella sticks in the center, fold the dough over, and roll into a pretzel shape.
- Bring 8 cups of water and baking soda to a boil in a pot. Boil pretzels for 30 seconds on each side.
- Place pretzels on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and sprinkle with coarse salt.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
- Allow to cool slightly before serving.
