- 6 eggs
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 loaf of brioche or challah bread, cubed
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, dotted on top
- Additional sugar for brulee topping
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt.
- Cube the brioche or challah bread and add it to the egg mixture, stirring to combine.
- Pour the mixture into a greased baking dish.
- Dot the top with unsalted butter.
- Sprinkle the brulee topping sugar over the top.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 45 minutes or until set and golden brown.
- Let cool slightly, then serve with fresh berries and a dusting of powdered sugar.
Notes
For an added crunch, sprinkle crushed shortbread or almond praline before torching the top. You can use a kitchen torch or broiler for the caramelized sugar topping.
