Description

An irresistible and easy-to-master brunch dish that combines the creamy indulgence of crème brûlée with the classic comfort of French toast.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 loaf of brioche or challah bread, cubed
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, dotted on top
  • Additional sugar for brulee topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt.
  3. Cube the brioche or challah bread and add it to the egg mixture, stirring to combine.
  4. Pour the mixture into a greased baking dish.
  5. Dot the top with unsalted butter.
  6. Sprinkle the brulee topping sugar over the top.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for about 45 minutes or until set and golden brown.
  8. Let cool slightly, then serve with fresh berries and a dusting of powdered sugar.

Notes

For an added crunch, sprinkle crushed shortbread or almond praline before torching the top. You can use a kitchen torch or broiler for the caramelized sugar topping.
