A warm and hearty Serbian bean soup that embodies the essence of comfort food, perfect for gatherings or a cozy meal at home.
Ingredients

- 250g dried white beans
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 carrots, chopped
- 1 red bell pepper, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2–3 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- Salt, to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
- Water
- Optional: smoked meat or sausage
Instructions
- Soak the beans overnight in water. Drain and rinse.
- In a large pot, heat oil and sauté onions, garlic, carrots, and bell pepper until soft (5-7 minutes).
- Add soaked beans, paprika, and cover with water. Bring to a boil.
- Reduce heat and simmer for 1-2 hours or until beans are tender.
- Season with salt and pepper. Add smoked meat in the last 30 minutes if desired.
- Serve hot.
