Description

A warm and hearty Serbian bean soup that embodies the essence of comfort food, perfect for gatherings or a cozy meal at home.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 250g dried white beans
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 carrots, chopped
  • 1 red bell pepper, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 23 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • Water
  • Optional: smoked meat or sausage

Instructions

  1. Soak the beans overnight in water. Drain and rinse.
  2. In a large pot, heat oil and sauté onions, garlic, carrots, and bell pepper until soft (5-7 minutes).
  3. Add soaked beans, paprika, and cover with water. Bring to a boil.
  4. Reduce heat and simmer for 1-2 hours or until beans are tender.
  5. Season with salt and pepper. Add smoked meat in the last 30 minutes if desired.
  6. Serve hot.
