Description

A flexible and adaptable cookie bar recipe that allows you to use various mix-ins to create delicious treats while reducing waste.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups mix-ins (chocolate chips, nuts, dried fruit, etc.)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Line a 9×13-inch pan with parchment and lightly grease.
  3. Combine dry ingredients (flour, salt, baking soda) in a bowl and set aside.
  4. Cream softened butter and sugars until light. Add eggs and vanilla; stir until combined.
  5. Add dry mix to wet, folding until just combined; avoid overmixing.
  6. Stir in mix-ins, holding back a small portion for topping.
  7. Transfer dough to the prepared pan and press evenly. Scatter reserved mix-ins on top and lightly press them in.
  8. Bake until edges are set and center is firm. Check for doneness around 18 minutes.
  9. Cool in the pan before slicing to prevent crumbling.

Notes

Experiment with different mix-ins and proportions for various textures and flavors. Ensure mix-ins do not exceed 40-60% of the dough volume.
