- 4 egg whites
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Food coloring (optional)
- Edible glitter or nonpareils (for decoration)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 225°F (110°C).
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a clean bowl, whisk egg whites on medium speed until foamy.
- Add cream of tartar and whisk until soft peaks form.
- Gradually add sugar, one tablespoon at a time, whisking until stiff and glossy peaks form.
- Gently fold in vanilla extract and food coloring.
- Transfer mixture to a piping bag and pipe tree shapes onto the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake for 1 hour and 30 minutes without opening the oven door.
- Turn off the oven, leave the door slightly ajar, and cool the meringues inside for 30 minutes.
