Description
A creamy and cheesy potato gratin with layers of caramelized onions and crispy bacon, perfect as a side dish or main course.
Ingredients

- 4 large potatoes, thinly sliced
- 2 large onions, sliced
- 6 slices of bacon, cooked and crumbled
- 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar or gruyère)
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 2 tablespoons butter
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh thyme (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a skillet, cook the bacon until crispy. Remove and crumble.
- In the same skillet, caramelize the onions in butter.
- In a baking dish, layer potatoes, onions, bacon, and cheese until all ingredients are used.
- Pour cream over the top layer, season with salt and pepper.
- Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove the foil in the last 15 minutes to allow the top to brown.
- Let cool slightly, garnish with thyme, and serve!
Notes
For a lighter version, you can substitute heavy cream with half-and-half or milk. This gratin can be prepared a day in advance and baked when ready to serve.
