Description

A creamy and cheesy potato gratin with layers of caramelized onions and crispy bacon, perfect as a side dish or main course.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 2 large onions, sliced
  • 6 slices of bacon, cooked and crumbled
  • 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar or gruyère)
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh thyme (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a skillet, cook the bacon until crispy. Remove and crumble.
  3. In the same skillet, caramelize the onions in butter.
  4. In a baking dish, layer potatoes, onions, bacon, and cheese until all ingredients are used.
  5. Pour cream over the top layer, season with salt and pepper.
  6. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove the foil in the last 15 minutes to allow the top to brown.
  7. Let cool slightly, garnish with thyme, and serve!

Notes

For a lighter version, you can substitute heavy cream with half-and-half or milk. This gratin can be prepared a day in advance and baked when ready to serve.
