Description

These simple, irresistible Cheese Straws are quick to make and perfect for parties or snacks, with a crisp, flaky texture and rich cheese flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup self-rising flour
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, freshly shredded
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • Water, as needed

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the self-rising flour, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, and kosher salt.
  2. In a stand mixer, beat together the shredded cheddar cheese and softened butter until creamy.
  3. Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the cheese mixture, beating on low speed. Add water, one teaspoon at a time, as needed to form a dough.
  4. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and let it rest for 10-15 minutes while the oven preheats.
  5. Line baking sheets with parchment paper. Using a cookie press, pipe the dough into 2- to 3-inch strips on the baking sheets.
  6. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 14-17 minutes or until light golden brown.
  7. Cool completely on baking sheets before serving.

Notes

For extra variation, you can try different cheese blends or add spices like paprika or herbs for a unique twist.
