Ocean Blue Floral Shoulder Dress Free Crochet Pattern

I’ve been searching for the perfect statement dress pattern for ages. This ocean blue floral shoulder dress is my absolute favourite find. The sculptural roses cascading down one shoulder, the delicate mesh stripes, that gorgeous sweetheart neckline. This one has it all.
If you love bold handmade fashion pieces that turn heads, this is the pattern you need in your collection. It combines fitted bodycon construction with romantic floral details for something truly special.
Let me walk you through every step of creating this stunning piece from start to finish.
About This Crochet Dress Pattern
This fitted mini dress features everything I adore about statement crochet fashion. The sweetheart neckline creates a flattering silhouette. Alternating solid and mesh stripe sections add gorgeous texture throughout the body. A decorative scallop border finishes the hem beautifully. And those five sculptural spiral roses clustered on the left shoulder? Absolutely showstopping.
The construction method is clever too. You work the body seamlessly in the round from hem to underarm. Then you divide for the bodice and work flat panels to create that sweetheart shaping. The roses are made separately and sewn on at the end.
Skill level: Advanced. This pattern requires comfort with working both in the round and flat, managing gauge in a fitted garment, executing asymmetric sweetheart neckline shaping, and constructing 3D floral embellishments.
Time estimate: Approximately 40 to 60 hours depending on your experience with fitted garments. The roses alone take 4 to 6 hours.
Finished Measurements
This pattern is written for size Small/Medium, which fits dress sizes 4 to 8.
Finished measurements laid flat and unstretched:
The yarn has approximately 10 to 15 percent negative ease for that body-con fit. This means the dress measurements are slightly smaller than body measurements, and the fabric stretches to accommodate the wearer.
Materials Needed
Yarn: 800 to 1000 yards / 732 to 914 meters of DK weight (light 3) cotton or cotton-acrylic blend in teal blue
Recommended yarn options:
Substitution tip: Choose yarn with at least 50% natural fiber content for proper drape and structure. Avoid wool or elastic yarns because the bodycon silhouette depends on the yarn sitting against the body rather than springing back.

Gauge
With E-4 hook in single crochet:
In Mesh Stripe pattern:
Gauge is critical here. This is a fitted garment where even one stitch per inch of difference translates to 1 to 2 inches of circumference change. Please swatch, wash, block, and measure before starting.

To form rose: Hold the beginning chain end. Roll the strip tightly into a spiral with the ruffled edge on the outside. With RS facing, attach yarn at right back outer edge.

Part 6: Rose Assembly
Make 5 spiral roses following the special stitch instructions above.
Arrange roses in a cluster on the left shoulder, with the largest rose at the top near the strap attachment point. The cluster should cascade down the left front upper chest.
Sew each rose securely to the dress using matching yarn and tapestry needle. Stitch through the base of each rose and into the dress fabric multiple times for a secure hold.
Finishing and Blocking
Weave in all remaining ends. Soak the dress in lukewarm water for 15 to 20 minutes. Gently squeeze out excess water without wringing. Lay flat on blocking board and pin to measurements. Allow to dry completely before wearing.

Tips for Success
Take your time with the sweetheart shaping. Those inner edge decreases create the beautiful V dip at center front.
When making the roses, roll tightly for a more compact look or loosely for a more open bloom. Play with different tensions to find your preferred style.
Consider adding a lightweight stretch lining behind the mesh sections if you prefer more coverage.
